WGR 550: Paul Hamilton when asked what the trade value for Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram, and if they will trade him this offseason. Could the just decide to keep him like they did with Alex Tuch this past season?

Joe DiBiase: “What should they want Paul, if they were to move Byram?”
Hamilton: “Well, they’re not going to get much if, if you know, it’s not a sign of trade, because he’s going to, he’s going to the market. And if he’s going to the market, and you’re the other team, you’re basically doing what Jeremy just suggested. You’re going to get him for a year, and if you feel that, okay, that’s worth it. It’s like a trade deadline deal.”
DiBiase: “Right, which is often right, you’re paying the rental price, which often can be future pieces.”
Hamilton: “Right, future pieces, and so, and you know, we, Jeremy, you talked about examples. Well, Alex Tuch is an example too. I mean, he might become rental, you know, if he leaves Buffalo. I mean, Buffalo didn’t want to trade him or look to trade him, and I agree with that decision.

I think they needed Tuch in their playoff run, and I think there was more value in having him with the Sabers throughout the run to get to the playoffs, and in the playoffs than whatever futures you would have gotten to trade him somewhere else to be a rental.
So, that could be a scenario with Byram. Maybe you don’t worry about it for another year, and you keep him for this year and ,and the chips fall where they may. And he might become a Buffalo rental instead of a rental that you get from somebody else.”
