Sami Zayn apparently woke up feeling a little guilty after blowing up the WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER.
Just days after losing his cool during the controversial SmackDown opener, Zayn took to Twitter and attempted to explain himself, apologizing for what went down while also throwing in a little nod to his loyal fanbase.
“I’d like to apologize. I did my best to fairly call the WWE Championship match between my friend, Goldenboy Cody Rhodes & Gunther. What transpired in the end was not reflective of who I am. I know my Ride or Die fans will have my back regardless, but I promise to do better.”
The show opened with GUNTHER getting another shot at Cody Rhodes’ WWE Championship, with Zayn serving as special guest referee. Things got messy pretty quickly, as Zayn found himself in the middle of arguments with both men throughout the match. After GUNTHER shoved Zayn multiple times, tensions boiled over, leading to Zayn kicking GUNTHER’s hand off the ropes and delivering a lightning-fast count that helped Cody seemingly retain.
Nick Aldis wasn’t having it, however, and immediately restarted the match with a new official. That’s when everything completely fell apart. GUNTHER quickly trapped Cody in a sleeper hold before Zayn stormed back into the picture, blasting GUNTHER with a Helluva Kick out of nowhere and then smashing Cody in the face with the WWE Championship before storming off.
Now, Zayn is trying to clean up the mess publicly, but it’s probably safe to say GUNTHER and Cody won’t be accepting the apology anytime soon. Between the fast count, the Helluva Kick, and the championship shot, Sami managed to upset just about everyone in one night.
Bottom line, Sami Zayn says what happened wasn’t really him, but after Friday night, he’s got a lot more explaining to do than one tweet can fix, especially since he’ll face GUNTHER and Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Do you think Sami Zayn genuinely regrets what happened, or is this apology just another chapter in his unraveling? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
