Brittney Griner made history during the Connecticut Sun’s dominant win against the Chicago Sky on Monday. She finished with a team-high 14 points, along with eight rebounds, three assists and four blocks to lead Connecticut to a 92-63 victory.
With her four rejections, Griner became the WNBA’s all-time leader in blocks with 878, surpassing the mark (877 blocks) set by Margo Dydek in 11 seasons in the league.
Griner reached her record-breaking block in the third quarter when she denied Sky center Kamilla Cardoso’s fadeaway jumper near the rim.
It was certainly a memorable performance from Griner, although it wasn’t really a perfect night for her.

Unfortunately for Griner, she received a technical foul late in the third quarter of the game. It was her first tech of the season, which carries a $500 fine.
According to the WNBA’s rules, the first three technical fouls cost $500 each. The fourth through seventh technical fouls carry a $1,000 fine each, while anything beyond that is punishable with a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension.
Griner is still far from reaching the technical foul limit, but it will certainly be better for her to avoid getting more technical and flagrant fouls. She also has one flagrant point in the 2026 season after her physical exchange with Angel Reese in the Sun’s June 2 game with the Atlanta Dream.
Griner can also get suspended if she accumulates four flagrant points.
The Sun return to action on Friday against the Washington Mystics. Sure enough, plenty of eyes will be on Griner and Connecticut as they try to turn their season around.
