Terence Crawford makes Xander Zayas vs Jaron Ennis prediction

Terence Crawford has given his prediction for Saturday’s showdown between Xander Zayas and Jaron Ennis.

Zayas puts his WBA and WBO super welterweight world titles on the line against Ennis in a highly-anticipated clash at the Barclays Center, live on DAZN pay-per-view.

‘Boots’ looks to become a two-weight world champion, having previously reigned as unified titlist at welterweight.

And former five-division holder, Crawford has backed Ennis to emerge victorious.

“That’s a tough fight,” the 38-year-old said to Jai McAllister: BOXING & MMA.

“Especially for Xander at this point in his career, but it shows his heart and his confidence he has in himself.

“He’s ready to make history for himself, and his country.

“He’s going to do really well in that fight.

“But I just think, right now, it’s a little bit too early for him.”

Crawford retired undefeated in December, three months after his historic victory over Canelo Alvarez which saw him become the undisputed super middleweight champion.

A Crawford-Ennis showdown was one of the most sought-after match-ups when both men competed at welterweight, although a clash failed to materialise.

‘Boots’ refused to be drawn on a potential meeting with Crawford, who has repeatedly stated he won’t come out of retirement.

“He’s a retired fighter,” the 28-year-old Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM.

“If he comes back, he comes back.

“I’m different, y’all going to see.”

Ennis fights for the second time at super welterweight, having blown away Uisma Lima in the first round of his 154 pound debut in October.

The unbeaten Philadelphia man is a sizeable favourite with the bookmakers and he has vowed to stop Zayas, who is undefeated in 23 professional contests.

“I feel like this fight is gonna unfold however I want it to unfold,” he told Ring Magazine.
“And that’s me putting on a beautiful show, whether that’s me boxing, going forward or mid-range.
“I’mma get the knockout at the end of the night, just have to be patient, don’t look for it.”
