Kenny Omega is not acting like he’s done chasing the top prize in AEW. In fact, The Cleaner made it clear that the AEW World Championship is still very much on his mind.
During a conversation with The Sportster, Omega was asked about possibly challenging MJF again for the AEW World Championship, especially since he is 0-2 against him in singles competition. Omega didn’t dodge the question, but he also made it clear this is bigger than just getting another crack at MJF.
“Whether it be MJF or whether it be somebody else, my goal absolutely is to be in that conversation. I want to be on that heavyweight title conversation because not that I feel like I need to have another reign with that belt. I just feel like now that I’ve come back after some very complicating issues with my health. I want to push myself as far as I can go.”
Omega then explained that getting back to that level would mean more now because of everything he’s had to fight through physically. For him, it’s not just about another title run. It’s about proving he can still be that guy after his health issues tried to take him out of the game.
“And if that takes me to the conversation of being a main event player, great. But what’s even better is being that main event guy that actually can win, can hold a belt, can represent a company. And to me, that would be the ultimate victory over over this sickness that I’ve had to incur. So, um, yeah, for me it’s it’s it’s a personal battle. Absolutely. And, um, I would I would really love for this to go well and for me just to be more involved.”
Omega also talked about AEW’s current World Title scene, and he sounds fired up about how many people could realistically hold the belt right now. He said this might be the most exciting the championship picture has ever been since AEW started.
“I feel like especially now I mean because I’ I’ve been here since the beginning. This is probably the most exciting for me that the the title scene has been and I I mean that uh via the amount of competitors vying for the belt.”
Omega pointed out that AEW is not stuck with one obvious challenger right now. With MJF holding the title, he said there are several names who could step up and not look out of place as champion.
“Sometimes you’ll you’ll have a champion and you’ll know who’s gunning for it and you know that’s going to be the story for the long run. And now I mean gez we have MGF as a champion but it could easily be Derby. It could easily be a cow Fletcher. It could easily be a Teesha, Kevin Knight, Okada. Who knows? Maybe it could be me. It could be an Osprey. It swerve.”
Omega said the company is in a strong spot because the title could land on several different wrestlers and still feel right.
“We have so many possibilities where if that belt went around their waist, it wouldn’t look odd. It wouldn’t look out of place. And I would feel that the company’s in good hands.”
Adam Bernard then added that AEW may have close to 10 guys who could carry the championship without the company falling apart. Omega agreed with that idea, making it clear he sees AEW’s main event scene as loaded right now.
Omega still has Zack Sabre Jr. waiting for him at Forbidden Door, but it’s clear he’s thinking bigger than just one match. The AEW World Championship is still the mountain, and after everything Omega has gone through, climbing back to the top would hit a lot different this time.
