The Green Bay Packers are coming off three straight seasons in which the team entered the NFC Playoffs as the seven seed. Three years ago they managed to beat the Dallas Cowboys and move onto the divisional round where they were three points shy of reaching the NFC Championship game.
However, in the two years since the Packers have failed to make any noise in the playoffs. Looking to take their team from playoff caliber to Super Bowl caliber the team could be involved in yet another huge trade. Here are the details.

Packers Named In Huge Trade “By The 2026 Trade Deadline”
There is no doubt that the Green Bay Packers value running back Jonathan Taylor. Brian Gutekunst reached out to Chris Ballard in 2023 in an effort to acquire the star running back, but the Indianapolis Colts requested wide receiver Christian Watson in exchange.
There is a realistic possibility of a new opportunity arising three years later. Garrett Podell of CBS Sports compiled a list of NFL players who would request a “Giannis Antetokounmpo” type of return, and Taylor made the list due to his contract situation with Indianapolis.
Taylor is mentioned by Podell as the second most productive running back of the 2020s, after Derrick Henry. In 2026, he will complete the final year of the contract extension that he signed back in 2023. Taylor is expected to earn $13 million this season.
“Prediction on whether or not Taylor will eventually ask for a trade: Yes, by the 2026 trade deadline.
“Taylor enters the final year of his three-year, $42 million contract in 2026, so if the Colts start off slow thanks to unreliable starts to the year by Jones and Pierce, it would be in both the franchise’s and Taylor’s best interest to part ways at the trade deadline.
“Compensation to get the deal done: Third-round pick” — Garrett Podell
If the Packers aren’t certain on Josh Jacobs’ future after his arrest, Taylor could be a perfect replacement.
Jonathan Taylor’s NFL Career Thus Far
Through six NFL seasons (all with the Colts) Taylor has accumulated the following stats:
- 84 games played
- 78 total starts
- 1,551 rushing attempts
- 7,598 rushing yards
- 69 rushing touchdowns
- 187 receptions
- 1,469 receiving yards
- 7 receiving touchdowns
At age 27, Taylor would be a huge addition to the Packers’ offense.
