The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy is now less than a month away, but the build-up has begun already. Team India will be looking for a hat-trick of series victories in Australia after having swept it in 2018/19 and 2020/21 series with an identical scoreline of 2-1.
On the other hand, Australia will be looking to spoil India’s party and deny them of making the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the third edition in a row. Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, Australia beat India in 2 major finals just last year.
The side led by Cummins defeated India in the final of the WTC and then beat Rohit Sharma’s men in the ODI World Cup title clash in November later in the year. A victory in the Border-Gavaskar series would be their next aim.
Ahead of the much-awaited series, Cummins made a cheeky remark when asked about his expectations from the pitches to host India.
“I wish, if I had my way, the pitches would be looking like those bushes behind you (laughs),” said Cummins on the Grade Cricketer Podcast.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have any say, so we will wait and see. The last couple of seasons, the wickets have been awesome. It feels like if someone has scored a hundred, they have batted the house down. Taken them a few sessions, whereas my first couple of years, some of those wickets were so flat,” Cummins added.
The Australian captain expects an even competition between bat and ball throughout the crucial 5-match Test series.
“I just hope there is a bit of balance between bat and ball. I think some of those Indian spinning wickets as well, I think that last tour, Delhi we should have won, it just gets the teams close to each other if you get wickets like that, but you don’t listen to our players complaining about those types of wickets,” Cummins further said.
