Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has predicted Jasprit Bumrah to be the next captain of Indian team because of his spectacular outing with the ball and exceptional leadership skills.
Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that considering his powerful show in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah should be India’s captain after Rohit Sharma. Even though India lost the title of BGT after a decade, Jasprit Bumrah has remained the highlight of the five-match tournament.
Sunil Gavaskar has stated that Bumrah is a person who leads from the front and has got the presence of a leader, but not the type who puts pressure on players.
“He could be the next man. I think he will be the next man. Because he leads from the front, he has got a very good air about him, the air of a leader but not somebody who is going to pressure on you,” Gavaskar said on Channel 7.
“Sometimes, you have captains who put a lot of pressure on you. With Bumrah you can see that, he expects the others to do what their job is, why they are in the national team, but it doesn’t seem to pressurise anybody,” he added.
the star pacer was also presented with the Player of the Series in the BGT as he was the highest wicket-taker, with 32 wickets on his name. He also led the team in the series opener in Perth, where India came out victorious by 295 runs, and in the final Test in Sydney where Rohit Sharma decided to opt out of the match.
