LeBron James proves Brian Windhorst’s ‘unknown territory’ theory wrong after sacrificing his scoring streak

LeBron James is about to turn 41 years old this month, but he still remains the focal point of the media.

For the first time in his career, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is showing some clear signs of decline in his form.

Of course, a lot of this is because of missing the NBA training camp and the start of the season, which led to James not being in top shape for the regular season.

Can LeBron James still save his poor start to his 23rd NBA season?

Keeping that in mind, NBA expert Brian Windhorst recently explained why this is ‘unknown territory’ for the 4x NBA champion.

The 2025-26 NBA season is James’ 23rd year in the league, and of course, he’s the first player in league history to play as many campaigns.

However, it’s also one of the worst starts of James’ career ever. After all, LBJ is currently averaging just 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game for the Lakers. So, what’s the reason behind this poor start? Well, Windhorst recently proposed a theory.

“We’ve never seen him not be the 1A guy on his team. We’ve never seen him have offseason injuries before. Then his team, without him, plays really, really well.

“Absolutely never happened. They’ve never achieved,” Windhorst said on The Dan Patrick Show.

He further claimed that this is an unknown territory for the 4x NBA MVP, and that has led to a slow start for him.

“You look at a team that has missed LeBron for multiple games, and man, they’re doing great, and Austin Reaves is having a career year.

“So you’ve got this series of circumstances that he’s never experienced before, not to mention not being able to start a season, not having to have a training camp, so we are in completely unknown territory for him,” Windy stated.

LeBron James proved Brian Windhorst

During the Lakers’ previous loss against the Phoenix Suns, James was criticized for barely keeping his double-digit scoring streak alive.

Many grilled LBJ for playing for his individual stats rather than putting the team first. However, James silenced his critics during the Lakers’ 123-120 win over the Toronto Raptors.

Do you think this will be LeBron James’ final season?

For starters, James’ 1,297-game streak of scoring at least 10 points was snapped. But it happened because James made an extra pass to help Rui Hachimura make the game-winning three-point shot.

He may have recorded just 8 points, but James had 11 assists. This proves that it may seem like an unknown territory for James, but he is ready to sacrifice his personal records for the greater good.
