3 lessons from OKC Thunder vs. Dallas Mavericks: Anthony Davis scores 2 points in 21-point loss

The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their dominant run by decimating the Dallas Mavericks, including holding Anthony Davis to just 2 points!

The Dallas Mavericks suffered a bludgeoning against the Oklahoma City Thunder, ending their 3-game winning streak.

For all the analysts suggesting Anthony Davis should stay with the Mavericks, he was their worst performer on the night, scoring 2 points on 9 shot attempts.

Cooper Flagg had yet another strong game, scoring 16 points, while Flagg’s rookie teammate Ryan Nembhard had 10 points and 3 assists.

It was an abysmal outing from the Mavericks in a season full of them, and the OKC Thunder seemed to relish playing against a wounded Dallas side.

OKC Thunder continue to play elite, efficient basketball

For long stretches in the game, the Thunder looked like they were incapable of missing a shot. They went 47-84 from the field on a 56% clip.

Their efficiency from deep was just as great, going 12-30 from range, converting 40% of their shots beyond the arc.

Will OKC Thunder surpass the Warriors’ record 73-9 season?

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the perfect example of this, going 10-12 from the field while scoring 33 points with several trips to the free-throw line.

Anthony Davis puts on an offensive disasterclass

Anthony Davis had been playing well coming into the game. But you would never have guessed that based on his performance tonight.

Davis played 24 minutes and scored just 2 points, going 1-9 from the field. For whatever reason, Davis wasn’t able to get the shots to go down.

The Dallas Mavericks need The Brow we all know!

This is the version of Anthony Davis the Dallas Mavericks wanted when they traded Luka Doncic!

Do you think Davis will EVER show his top form for the Mavs… or will they trade him first?

For a player who is on the trading block for the Mavericks, these types of performances only hurt his value and what haul the team can get for him.

Dallas Mavericks can’t make any impact on defensive end

The Dallas Mavericks’ struggles on the offensive end have been well-documented. However, few fans expected them to be as weak on the defensive end this season as they have been.

Against the Thunder, the Mavericks had just 2 steals and 3 blocks as a team, with most of them coming in the first half.

For a team that boasts elite defenders like Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg, this is absolutely unacceptable and a scathing indictment of how far they have fallen over the last year.

It’s hard to see this iteration of the Mavericks digging themselves out of the hole they’ve created for themselves this season.
