At the top of the bill in Monte Carlo, Shabaz Masoud claimed the vacant European super bantamweight title with a close points win against Peter McGrail.
Masoud (15-0, KO4) took the IBO title in his last contest, and also the unbeaten record of Liam Davies in an impressive split decision win last November, while Liverpool’s McGrail (12-2, KO6) was last seen in June, and he took a majority decision win against the granite Ionut Baluta in Birmingham.
McGrail used his boxing skills in the opening round, and his hand speed was on show early as he made a bright start to the contest. Masoud began to warm to his task, finding his rhythm and closing the gap as rounds went on, while also connecting with some eye-catching shots, catching McGrail on the way in in round five.
McGrail had his success too, a left hand rocking Masoud momentarily in the seventh, but it was a close contest, Masoud ending that round strongly. Masoud worked well to the body in round nine, and in a significant moment in the fight, McGrail lost a point for punching behind the head. The two continued to go back and forth, with Masoud easing off slightly in the final rounds, which McGrail finished strongly.

All possibilities looked open as the bout went to the cards, scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 114-113 ensured Masoud went home with the gold.
There were upsets to be found on the undercard, and IBF lightweight champion Beatriz Ferreira (8-1, KO2) was on the wrong end of a huge upset in the fourth defence of her title, as she was sensationally stopped by Elif Nur Turhan (12-0, KO8) in five rounds. After being decked in the opening round, the Brazilian was trapped under a torrent of clean shots in the fifth, and she had to find refuge on the canvas. The referee took a long look at Ferreira, and decided she was unable to continue, crowning Turhan the new champion.

Former Olympian Pat McCormack (8-1, KO6) tasted defeat for the first time as a professional, as Conah Walker (17-3-1, KO8) took the vacant IBF Intercontinental welterweight title with a stunning final-round knockout win.

It was a close contest going into the last session, and Walker cornered McCormack, unloading until McCormack fell onto the ring apron. McCormack was all at sea, and in no fit state to continue, so the fight was waved off.
Johnny Fisher (14-1, KO12) had his first fight since defeat to Dave Allen in May, and he took a fourth-round win against unbeaten Ivan Balaz (7-1, KO5) in their scheduled ten-rounder at heavyweight.
