Forward Bayley Harewood will replace Sam Lyne in the Great Britain squad for this month’s men’s World Championship in Switzerland.
Lyne’s domestic team Cranbrook Bucks have progressed to the next stage of the BCHL playoffs.
Harewood joined training camp on Wednesday and played in Saturday night’s 4-1 victory over Italy at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.
The 22-year-old played all six games for GB in the IIHF European Cup of Nations last season, scoring against Slovenia at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
Head Coach, Pete Russell, said: “To lose Sam Lyne is disappointing as he is a really good young talent, but we fully understand his playoff situation in North America and wish him every success.
“With Sam now staying at home with his team we have called up Bayley Haywood. Bayley is a really talented player and we are delighted he has joined our group. He is really excited and this is his chance to show up on the biggest stage.”
GB continue their training camp in Nottingham this week before flying to Italy at the weekend to continue the four-game series.
The two sides will meet in Varese on Sunday 10th May (15:30 BST) and Tuesday 12th May (18:50 BST).
At May’s World Championship, GB will face Austria, USA, Hungary, Switzerland, Finland, Latvia and Germany in the group stages at the 12,000-seater Swiss Life Arena in Zurich.
Group B – which is being held at the 9,000-seater BCF Arena in Fribourg, consists of Canada, Sweden, Czechia, Denmark, Slovakia, Norway, Slovenia and Italy.
