Injuries Galore for the American

Tommy Paul will no doubt look back on his 2025 season with frustration, as injuries hindered his ability to perform at his best. As a result, he had to end his season prematurely after the US Open.

The American finishes the year ranked No. 20 in the world, and his best performances at the Grand Slams came in Melbourne and Paris, where he reached the last eight at both. He failed to win a title or reach the final of any tournament, but did rise to a career-high ranking of No. 8 in June.

Tommy Paul 2025 Season Review

Strong Start to 2025

Paul started 2025 strongly, reaching the semifinals at Adelaide and then the last eight at the Australian Open. The American looked especially good in Melbourne, even during his loss to Alexander Zverev in four sets.

He reached the semifinals at Houston and the Rome Masters, and while he didn’t reach the finals at either, Paul was consistently winning and building steam for the clay-court season and beyond.

Injury Problems

The French Open was supposed to be a fantastic tournament for Paul, and it was, as he reached the last eight. Still, unfortunately, he picked up an abdominal strain, which derailed any planned preparation for Wimbledon.

He did recover in time for Wimbledon, but a ruptured tendon in the foot meant he crashed out in the second round to Sebastian Ofner in four sets.

That particular injury kept him out of tennis action for a month, and it seemed like he never really could play his best since he came back from the injury. A second round defeat at the Cincinnati to Adrian Mannarino, where he did not look match fit, meant he entered the US Open with limited preparation. A third-round defeat at the US Open in five highly entertaining sets to Alexander Bublik ended his 2025 season.

2026 Season

The Adelaide Open organisers have confirmed that Paul will begin his 2026 campaign there. The American will do well to put a disappointing season behind him and build momentum throughout 2025.

Paul’s primary focus should be to be injury-free for the initial part of the year so that he can get some match wins under his belt, especially at Adelaide, as the runway to the Australian Open is very short. Consistency will be key for Paul, and he will need to regain his best tennis.
