The U.S. men’s national team’s final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are over.
Mauricio Pochettino’s squad played out a 3-2 win over Senegal on May 31 before falling 2-1 on Saturday against Germany, moving to 1-3-0 in 2026 across four friendly matches. Although the USMNT’s record isn’t where they would want it to be prior to group stage play beginning, the overall performances have improved drastically since a pair of March losses to Belgium and Portugal.
Antonee Robinson, Sergino Dest, Christian Pulisic, and Folarin Balogun all scored goals over the last 180+ minutes while 24 of the 26 players in Pochettino’s squad earned minutes. Forward Haji Wright dressed for both matches but did not feature in either, posing a slight worry about Pochettino’s expectations for him when tournament play begins.
Injured defender Chris Richards was unavailable for both matches as he continues injury rehabilitation on his ankle. Richards suffered torn ligaments in his ankle with Crystal Palace back on May 17 and has not played since then.
Paraguay is up first for the Americans on Friday in Los Angeles, providing a stern opening night test for Pochettino’s squad.
