Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has come out in defense against the trolling he faced for disapproving of the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) decision to allow Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand to train at their academy before the Test series in India. During the Test series where the Kiwis created history by beating India 3-0, Ravindra of course turned out to be the top scorer for New Zealand. In the same way, he was a part of CSK’s line-up in IPL 2024 and hence the franchise let him train at their facility to prepare him for local conditions. Uthappa was quite vocal in his opposition towards the choice of CSK and stated that such teams are expected to draw the line of tolerance when national pride is on the line.
“Rachin Ravindra came here and practiced at CSK Academy. CSK is a lovely franchise that will always take care of its franchise players but a line must be set when it comes to the image of the country prior to your franchise players, more so when he is a foreign player who comes to this country to play”, stated Uthappa on his Youtube channel.
“I don’t have a doubt how CSK has always managed to go as far as possible for their players but to a certain extent, and here I might be wrong, much as I love CSK, there is a limit to the dispensing of favors patriotic to the country, there is a level over which one does not step,” he further stated.
But there are some who didn’t agree with Uthappa.
“I must say that it is nice that one is able to disagree and yet exchange views. Or do you want to take it up in more detail in a Live session? Leave me a message in the comments section” stated Uthappa.
A number of the supporters didn’t share the view of Uthappa while others reproached him for that. Addressing the comments, termed Uthappa, ‘I posted a video yesterday, where I talked about Rachin Ravindra practicing at the Super Kings Academy prior to Tests in India. Quite a few of you seemed to have a problem with that, which is perfectly alright!’
