A look at where Big Ten teams – including IU basketball – stand in updated way-too-early 2026-27 rankings – Inside the Hall

The deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft has passed and 2026-27 college basketball rosters continue to take shape.

Here’s a look at where Big Ten teams – including IU basketball – currently stand in the latest way-too-early rankings for the 2026-27 season:

CBSSports.com – Gary Parrish

Parrish authors the Top 25-and-1 for CBSSports.com and the Big Ten currently has seven teams in his latest rankings.

2026 national champion Michigan is No. 3 behind Florida and Duke, with Illinois (No. 4) and Michigan State (No. 6) also in the top ten.

USC is No. 17, followed by Purdue (No. 19), Indiana (No. 21) and Nebraska (No. 26).

Jon Rothstein – FanDuel

Rothstein, a longtime college basketball insider, ranks 45 teams and has frequently updated his rankings throughout the spring.

There are 12 Big Ten teams in Rothstein’s top 45 and all of them are in the top 36.

Here are the teams included in his latest update: Illinois (No. 2), Michigan (No. 4), Michigan State (No. 7), USC (No. 15), UCLA (No. 19), Purdue (No. 22), Ohio State (No. 23), Indiana (No. 25), Nebraska (No. 28), Wisconsin (No. 32), Iowa (No. 35) and Oregon (No. 36).

HoopsHQ.com – Seth Davis

Davis, a longtime college basketball voice, also updates a preseason top 25, which he publishes on his site, HoopsHQ.com.

Michigan, at No. 3, is his top-rated Big Ten team, followed by No. 5 Michigan State, No. 6 Illinois, No. 16 USC, No. 19 Ohio State, No. 20 UCLA, No. 21 Indiana, No. 23 Purdue and No. 24 Nebraska.

Here’s what Davis wrote about the Hoosiers: “Darian DeVries’ roster has been heavily replenished through the transfer portal. Bryce Lindsay and Markus Burton are high-scoring guards, and Darren Harris would have had more impact at Duke if he weren’t playing alongside so much talent. Samet Yigitoglu is an experienced big man who can finish at the rim and protect it on defense. Clemens Sokolov is a 7-foot center who averaged 6.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in a German pro league. He is 18 years old and considered a developmental prospect.”

James Fletcher – On3.com

The bracketologist for On3.com, Fletcher also puts together preseason rankings for On3.com and is on version eight for this offseason.

Michigan is the top Big Ten team at No. 2, followed by Michigan State (No. 5) and Illinois (No. 7).

Purdue is No. 12, Indiana is No. 18, USC is No. 24 and Nebraska is No. 25 for a total of seven Big Ten programs represented.

Andy Katz – NCAA.com

Katz, who has published a power 36 for several years, recently expanded to a power 44 with the eight additional spots added to the NCAA tournament field beginning in 2027.

His power 44 includes three Big Ten teams in the top 10 in Michigan (No. 3), Illinois (No. 4) and Michigan State (No. 7).

In the top 25: USC (No. 17), Purdue (No. 18), Nebraska (No. 21), Indiana (No. 23) and UCLA (No. 25).

Ohio State is No. 31, Iowa is No. 35, Wisconsin is No. 37 and Maryland is No. 43, giving the Big Ten 12 teams in the top 44.
