Estevao was flying high in his debut Chelsea season before a dreadful hamstring injury brought it to a halt early.
The winger racked up 845 Premier League minutes, and would have had more at the conclusion of the campaign had he not been stricken against Manchester United.
Estevao wept to see World Cup dream crushed
“[I cried] a lot. A lot,” Estevao admitted when asked how he had felt the night of the injury. It was immediately clear that he would miss the rest of the season, and a trip to the World Cup with Brazil.
“It’s the fulfilment of a dream to play in a World Cup. Everyone waits for that, especially me, because I had been part of the whole process. It was a moment of huge sadness in my heart. I don’t think I even slept that night.”
We really hope there’s no lasting damage – the fact he’s so young should help his recovery. He has plenty f World Cups in his future if he recovers well.
In other news…
Valentin Barco had a good game for Argentina last night – and many are expecting him to join Chelsea next summer.
Tensions continue to simmer at Chelsea behind the scenes, and Matt Law says a lot can be traced back to one major decision over Mauricio Pochettino.
