Aakash Chopra Urges KL Rahul to Break Free from Kohli and Rohit

The red ball season is coming back into the cricket arena. After a long limited over schedule, Team India is all set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series on home soil. Along with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, star players like KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and other are set to conquer the longest format once again. Before stepping into the field, Aakash Chopra remarked that KL Rahul will always be overshadowed by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, highlighting the challenge of competition.

KL Rahul Returns o the Longest Format:

After winning the five-match against England earlier this year, India is returning in the longest format. From September 19, India will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. With that, some of the big stars are also coming back. After missing the entire Test series against England, Virat Kohli is coming back. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant is coming back in the longest format after facing a life-threatening accident.

Just like the other stars, KL Rahul is also coming back in the Test format. He was ruled out from the Test series against England in the halfway, due to an injury. After that, he had an average IPL season. He was omitted from Team India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

He played in the ODI series against Sri Lanka but dropped before the final game. Before the Test series started, the Indian player participated in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. After having a forgettable start in the first innings, he scored a crucial half-century in the second innings of the match. Now, he is all set to bounce back in the longest format for India against Bangladesh.

Aakash Chopra on KL Rahul:

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes KL Rahul needs to step out of the shadows of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Despite a successful career, Rahul has frequently been in and out of Indian squads. Chopra feels it’s time for him to make a strong statement.

He said, “I personally like KL Rahul as a player. He will have to score runs. If he keeps scoring runs, he will keep moving forward. His fate is that he will always be in the shadows of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. These are the big guys.”

Later he said, “I feel Rahul is super talented, super skilled. He will keep playing until he keeps scoring runs. Although the team rates him very high, an atmosphere gets created against him very quickly in Indian cricket.”

Lastly, he added, “There are plenty of people who go after him. So he won’t get as long a rope as you would give to anyone else with the same caliber or pedigree. If it’s up to me, I would definitely give it because he has scored a lot of runs and difficult runs.”
