Absent AEW Star in New York Ahead of Double or Nothing

Wardlow is in town ahead of AEW Double or Nothing weekend, immediately fueling speculation about a possible appearance.

According to Fightful Select, the former AEW TNT Champion is currently in New York before Sunday’s pay-per-view event at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens. As of now, there is no confirmation that Wardlow will appear on the show itself.

Wardlow has not wrestled for AEW since March 2024 and has largely stayed away from television while recovering from multiple injuries. He briefly returned on-screen during the 2025 Forbidden Door event before later confirming reports that he suffered a torn pectoral muscle around that time.

During an interview earlier this year with BCP+, Wardlow also revealed that he fully tore his left bicep ahead of filming Amazon Prime’s American Gladiator reboot. According to Wardlow, he chose not to undergo surgery and instead wore a sleeve during filming to hide discoloration in his arm.

Despite his absence from AEW programming, Fightful noted that sources said Wardlow has quietly been backstage at several recent shows while continuing to work toward medical clearance.

That means his presence in New York may not necessarily guarantee a Double or Nothing appearance, but fans are already wondering if AEW could finally be preparing to bring him back into the spotlight.

Wardlow was once positioned as one of AEW’s top powerhouse stars before injuries stalled his momentum over the last couple of years. Now with Double or Nothing taking place this weekend and Wardlow reportedly backstage nearby, the speculation around a comeback is starting all over again.

Do you think AEW should bring Wardlow back at Double or Nothing, and who would you want to see him feud with first? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
