AEW Collision Card Changed After Travel Issues From Mexico

AEW Collision Card Changed After Travel Issues From Mexico

Tony Khan had to do some last-minute shuffling before AEW Collision, and travel was the reason.

Just hours before the June 6 episode of Collision, Khan went live on Twitter to run down the card. He said AEW was dealing with a “crazy travel day” after several wrestlers competed in Mexico the night before and had issues getting back in time for the show. Khan explained that he was hoping to have Komander and Beast Mortos back in AEW after they worked the Arena Mexico show, but that did not happen.

“We’ve had a bit of a crazy travel day. Some of my favorite wrestlers are unfortunately stuck sideways of the border.”

Khan said he wanted some of CMLL’s top luchadors back for Collision, but the travel situation changed things.

“It was a great Arena Mexico show last night. I was really hoping to have some of the top luchadors with Komander and Beast Mortos back in AEW by now. They competed last night in Arena Mexico. I was hoping they would be back here, but I’ll get back to that later.”

That travel issue directly affected the AEW World Trios Championship match. Khan said Beast Mortos was stuck in Mexico and could not make it back for the show.

“Now I mentioned it’s been a crazy travel day. Rush of LFI picked up a great win in the Superstation Showcase a couple weeks ago… Now the thing is, Beast Mortos is stuck in Mexico. We weren’t able to have Beast Mortos back.”

The good news for AEW was that Sammy Guevara was able to make it back. Khan said Guevara was already on a plane after working in Mexico and would step into the match with LFI.

“There’s a man who’s on a plane back right now coming back from Mexico. He did make it back, and that’s Beast Mortos’ tag team partner Sammy Guevara.”

That means The Conglomeration will defend the AEW World Trios Championships against LFI, with Rush, Dralistico, and Sammy Guevara challenging Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly.

Khan also used the live video to promote the rest of Collision, including Persephone vs. Hazuki in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, TayJay vs. Divine Dominion for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles, Clark Connors vs. Juice Robinson, and Death Riders vs. STP.

Still, the biggest takeaway was the travel issue. AEW had wrestlers coming from Mexico, not everyone made it back in time, and Khan had to adjust the lineup before the show went live.

AEW Collision airs live coast to coast at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on TNT and streams on MAX. Ringside News will have live coverage.
