AEW held its annual Forbidden Door in San Jose, bringing together Superstars from its own roster, along with CMLL, New Japan, and Stardom. The Main Event saw Will Ospreay defeat Swerve Strickland in the Owen Cup Finals to punch his ticket to the World Title Match at All In. Who Will Ospreay will face is up in the air. That’s because one of the co-events saw Team Mark Briscoe defeat Team MJF in a Death’s Door Match. Following Mark Briscoe’s pin over MJF, Tony Khan has announced an AEW World Title Match for Dynamite this week.
Team Briscoe vs. Team MJF at Death’s Door
Weeks of MJF ducking Mark Briscoe came to a head at Forbidden Door as the two faced off in a 12-man Steel Cage Match. It was one year ago at Forbidden Door 2025 where Mark Briscoe pinned MJF. The chicken farmer has gotten the best of MJF in the past few weeks and was looking to exact some revenge at Forbidden Door.
Mark Briscoe teamed with Roderick Strong, Darby Allin, Kyle O’Reilly, Konosuke Takeshita, and Orange Cassidy. Meanwhile, MJF paid Don Callis for his Family’s services. The Devil teamed with Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, Jake Doyle, Kazuchika Okada, and Andrade El Idolo.
There was tension between MJF and members of The Don Callis Family heading into the match. Namely, MJF and Andrade seemed to be at odds. These tensions stem back to before Andrade even re-joined AEW, as MJF had choice words for the ex-WWE star when he left the Stamford-based company.
Andrade Turns on Don Callis Family
In the closing moments, MJF started bossing his teammates around. The AEW World Champion told Andrade to hold Mark Briscoe in place so he could nail him with his Dynamite Diamond Ring.
At first, Andrade acquiesced. While Andrade likes to keep it tranquilo, he is known to be a bit of a hot head. So, he dropped Briscoe and leveled MJF with a Spinning Back Elbow. Andrade then gave Jake Doyle a Low Blow for good measure.
As Andrade’s intentions were made clear, Mark Briscoe was able to come to. The former ROH World Champion finished off MJF with a Jay Driver to secure the victory for his team.
While The Conglomeration celebrated, Andrade ripped off his DCMJF shirt to reveal one underneath. The shirt read: FK Don FK MJF. So, it appears that Andrade and The Don Callis Family are officially done.
It also looks like a future rivalry between MJF and Andrade is brewing. However, MJF’s calendar is looking pretty full, as the AEW World Champion is scheduled to defend his Title this Wednesday.
AEW World Title Match Set for Dynamite in San Diego
AEW is staying in the summer sun in California for their post-Forbidden Door Dynamite. Tony Khan’s crew is rolling up in San Diego for this Wednesday’s Dynamite, and the Main Event has already been set.
When Team Briscoe won the Death’s Door Match, it meant that Mark Briscoe could have a future AEW World Title shot. Well, it seems like the Sussex Chicken Co. owner is ready to go. An AEW World Title Match is set for this Wednesday between MJF and Mark Briscoe.
MJF reacts to his upcoming Title defense:
Mark Briscoe has had one up on MJF all year long. So, momentum is definitely on the side of Jay Briscoe’s brother. That said, MJF is earmarked to headline All In at Wembley.
Future Plans for MJF
MJF has put over Mark Briscoe for the better part of the past year. So, many expect The Devil to retain the Triple B during Dynamite.
As of now, it’s expected that MJF will face Owen Hart Cup Winner Will Ospreay at All In in London. There is one more AEW Pay-Per-View along the way, and MJF has a serious potential roadblock.
AEW Redemption is scheduled for July 26th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Current plans are for MJF to defend the AEW World Title against Andrade. However, AEW is considering holding off on these two until after All In. Andrade could remain busy with a Don Callis Family member while MJF and Will Ospreay continue to build to their rivalry.
There’s even been a pitch for a potential Tag Team Match with MJF and Kyle Fletcher against Andrade and Will Ospreay. So, there are plenty of options to keep things interesting in the AEW World Title scene!
