Tyson Fury was in Manchester at the Misfits event on Saturday and a day later was on the White House lawn at the UFC event.
Fury, despite not fighting since boxing Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, has remained in the headlines with the tug-of-war between promoters Eddie Hearn and Dana White over who would promote his bout later this year against Anthony Joshua.
Fury was presented at the White House yesterday, and said White would have an announcement to make about his future.
Before that, however, Fury spoke to IFL TV in Manchester and said that he would like to fight in the interim and could box in July or August. He said that Andy Ruiz had priced himself out of a fight and said of the speculation that 24-0 (22 KOs) Albanian Nelson Hysa could be his opponent: “Nelson’s been one of the names that’s been talked about. He’s highly-ranked, undefeated guy, knockout artist, so he’s been one of the guys that’s been spoke of, as well.”
Then, Fury was asked about who might promote the event.
“Honestly, I don’t care who’s promoting the fight… it will all come out in the wash. It’s more of an ego thing for the promoters. For me, I’ll turn up, give me my money and I’ll put on a show. Whoever wants to put the biggest check up and the biggest event on, come see me… I don’t care where it is. Doesn’t really matter to me, as long as the fight happens… I just want to do the fight. We’re old enough, we’re mature enough, we’re both at the same stage of our careers, let’s fucking fight. I don’t care about he said, she said. It doesn’t matter to me.
“Whoever’s paying for this fight, which I don’t know who’s got the fight on, there’s that many promoters got involved now it’s like who’s putting the fight on. I don’t know.”
Fury spoke of the benefits of having the fight outside the UK, so fans could make a weekend of the bout taking place overseas, but he also threw up the idea that if the Joshua fight proved too difficult to nail down, he would have other options.
“There’s a few scenarios that’s happening,” Fury explained. “I’m in a great position, by the way. Ranked No. 1 with the WBC again. If rabbits-face [Oleksandr Usyk] pulls out of the fight with [Agit] Kabayel [the WBC’s No. 1], then I am in with Kabayel. So if the Joshua fight doesn’t happen for whatever reason, then I’ll get my shot at [being] three times [champion] against Kabayel and I’ll take it to Wembley. Three times heavyweight champion of the world, Agit Kabayel, this big destroying man who I’ve known from being a young lad and helped promote him, manage him, everything, that’d be great.”
