Ai Ogura linked with Yamaha move as MotoGP 2027 shake-up gathers pace

Several reports are linking Japanese MotoGP star Ai Ogura with a move to Yamaha’s factory team after impressing during his rookie season at Trackhouse Racing.

The MotoGP paddock has been full of rumours this year as the 2027 regulation changes, as well as a number of massive rider swaps and changes, are set to take place soon.

According to various reports, it is rumoured that Ai Ogura could be in-line to join Jorge Martin at Yamaha following the shock announcement earlier this year that Quartararo would depart the team for their arch-rivals Honda.

While the move might be considered a downgrade of sorts given Yamaha’s form in recent years, there are many benefits to being a factory rider, especially a Japanese one in a Japanese team.

Trackhouse have had a very successful start to their tenure in the premier class, the American racing team are currently Aprilia’s only satellite team on the grid and have already racked up several podiums and even a race win in Phillip Island from Raul Fernandez. However, like most of the current satellite teams, there is uncertainty around their future and whether they will switch to another manufacturer in 2027.

The changing of various satellite teams to different suppliers, as well as the large regulation overhaul, is causing one of the biggest rider market shakeups in recent years.

For Ogura, a lucrative Yamaha contract and the chance to test his skills against a World Champion teammate in Jorge Martin is certainly a worthwhile opportunity to consider.

As for now, nothing has officially been confirmed due to the ongoing finalization of a new agreement between the teams and MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (MSEG).
