The Black Widow of WWE made her triumphant return to the company, even capturing the Women’s Intercontinental Championship for the first time. Now that Becky Lynch reclaimed her Title at WrestleMania 42 Saturday, the future for AJ Lee seems uncertain. Here’s the latest news on AJ Lee’s status following her WrestleMania loss.
AJ Lee’s Status After WrestleMania
There is no denying that making a return to WWE has taken an emotional toll on the former Divas Champion. AJ Lee returned to WWE due to her fans’ continued support.
The comic writer noted that the turnout at conventions has been huge, and the AJ Legion has been vocal about wanting Mother to step back in the ring. She started to feel bad about not giving them a proper goodbye after her previous run.
AJ Lee has stated on media outlets that this current WWE run is for the AJ Legion. Now that WrestleMania 42 is in the books, we can close a chapter on this run for AJ Lee.
WWE Creative has no plans for AJ Lee moving forward. CM Punk’s wife will focus on some outside projects for the time being.

AJ Lee’s return saw her form a successful team with her husband, win gold, and wrestle at WrestleMania. Like many veterans, the 3-time Divas Champion is going to take a break from pro wrestling now that the Showcase of the Immortals is over.
First, AJ Lee reflected on her latest WrestleMania experience with a photo dump. The carousel featured many images of her with CM Punk. However, you can peep AJ hanging with other friends, including Bayley, Danhausen, and Roxanne Perez.
While the swipes got many fans talking, some got emotional from the pics of Larry at the end. Nonetheless, the second round of photo dumps really got the AJ Legion chatting about AJ Lee’s status.
AJ Lee Thanks Becky Lynch for WrestleMania Match
It had been 11 years since AJ Lee’s last WrestleMania match. Without question, the NXT OG was nervous. Thankfully for AJ Lee, she had a good dancing partner in Becky Lynch.
In a world where the likes of CM Punk speak out about breaking kayfabe on Unreal, AJ Lee broke the fourth wall to thank her nemesis.

This isn’t the first time AJ Lee has broken kayfabe about Becky Lynch in front of her husband. In an episode of Hot Ones Versus, AJ shared her love for Becky, causing CM Punk to groan. This was the same interview where AJ Lee called out CM Punk’s exes!
Is AJ Lee Done with WWE?
It’s believed that AJ Lee is still under contract with WWE. However, the star negotiated breaks to work on outside projects and to let her body heal.
The AJ Legion shouldn’t fret. Mother ended her thank-you post with “See you soon.”
While AJ Lee is not set for current plans, there is a working idea in motion for her in the future. In fact, AJ Lee could be back around SummerSlam time for a Tag Team program.
AJ Lee & Paige vs. The Bellas at SummerSlam?
AJ Lee’s last WrestleMania match saw her team with Paige against The Bella Twins. It looks like that four might run it back. Leading into WrestleMania, AJ Lee sat down with The Takedown on SI. During the show, the former Freaks and Geeks member noted that she is Paige’s “fairy godmother” and it would be “heartwarming” to see her return.
Thankfully for AJ’s heart, Paige made her comeback on WrestleMania 42 Saturday. The Glampire substituted for an injured Nikki Bella to capture the Tag Team Titles with Brie Bella.
Nikki Bella is currently out with a tear, sprain, and broken ankle. The WWE Hall of Famer will be on the shelf for a couple more months. However, there is already a built-in storyline where Nikki could express jealousy over the fact that Paige won the gold with her twin.
Some Creative team members are pitching for The Bellas to turn their backs on Paige down the road after they lose the gold. From there, AJ Lee would come back to help out her friend in a fight against The Bellas.
While The Bellas were disappointed over Nikki missing the Show of Shows in the ring, they were still happy to see their Total Divas castmate return. The twins were also glad to see their ex-WrestleMania rival, AJ Lee. So, the four posted a picture giving four fingers like the WWE Hall of Famers, The Four Horsemen.
Nikki Bella even posted the caption:

WWE’s Four Horsewomen are Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley. Bayley was very vocal about Nikki’s caption.
In fact The Role Model stated:
“NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVER HEARD ANYONE CALL YOU GUYS THAT”
While that caused Bayley to crash out, the former Women’s Champion did take a step back to show AJ some love in a separate comment. Meanwhile, Charlotte Flair celebrated the foursome with a parade of heart and smiling emojis.
SummerSlam is still quite a while away, and plans are already changing. After all, WWE was planning on Brock Lesnar retiring at the Minnesota event. However, The Beast Incarnate retired early, shockingly calling it a career at WrestleMania 42 Sunday. Effectively, Brock’s retirement ruined future plans for WWE, including a rumored program with Gunther.
