Anthony Gordon flying for scheduled medical after Barcelona offer accepted by Newcastle United

Newcastle United have now accepted an offer from Barcelona for Anthony Gordon.

The very reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed on Wednesday afternoon an offer of €80m (Approx £69.3m) plus potential future add-ons had been made.

Now on Wednesday night the man from The Athletic reports that this offer has been accepted by the Newcastle United owners.

David Ornstein saying that a sell-on clause has also been included as part of the deal offered by Barcelona, to help get the deal over the line. Other credible media also reporting that this Barca offer has been accepted now by NUFC.

Keith Downie who covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports says that Anthony Gordon will fly to Barcelona on Thursday for a scheduled medical before completing the transfer.

The Athletic have also confirmed that personal terms are already agreed between Gordon and Barcelona.

Newcastle United had given clubs permission to talk to Gordon’s representatives in late April to start getting things moving and there was a well publicised meeting with Bayern Munich. In Germany, that meeting was followed by widespread reporting that Bayern had agreed the loose framework of personal terms with the winger.

Three weeks ago, Sport then published images of Barca’s Sporting Director Deco meeting with Anthony Gordon’s agents (Unique Sports Agency representatives Will Salthouse and Adam Dugdale) in Barcelona.

All of this great news for Newcastle United as they were looking to maximise the return on the former Everton winger who they paid an initial £40m for back in January 2023, plus a potential £5m more in future add-ons.

There appears to have been a clear determination from both Anthony Gordon and Newcastle United to get a deal done before the World Cup finals. In only five days time the England squad fly to the United States on 1 July to begin their preparations with a training camp and warm up friendlies, ahead of the opening group match on 17 June against Croatia.

This early sale of Anthony Gordon will also give Newcastle United far more strength in the summer 2026 transfer window and especially their ability to get incoming deals done early as well. Here’s hoping.
