The 2026 World Cup is giving off some of the best sports vibes we have ever seen. Since Day 1 of the event, to now, just under two weeks into the games, we have seen something so amazing that words can barely describe it. The World Cup means so much to the world that scoring goals and winning/losing matches gives off a variety of mixed emotions.
What happened last Friday afternoon was incredible for the USMNT. The Americans defeated Australia 2-0, and Alex Freeman, son of former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Antonio Freeman, scored the second goal of the match. That goal pretty much confirmed that the Americans would be automatically going to the knockout stages, and fans were very, very happy. However, nobody was happier than Alex’s father, Antonio. In a recent interview with The Athletic, Antonio expressed how important that goal was for his son.
“It’s still kind of like an out-of-body experience,” the former Green Bay Packers star said. “When I made those plays back in the day, I scored for a team. He scored for a country. To see the shots of people celebrating outside, and all over the country … and to see the excitement in the eyes of his teammates … man, it’s a lot to take in.
I cried the whole game. I’ve never cried that much in my life.”
Freeman certainly impressed in that win for the USMNT. He was also knocked down hard before he scored, but got up and scored the goal with his head. That toughness he showcased to the world runs in the family.
