Reigning Scottish Premiership winners Celtic are not going down without a fight.
Auston Trusty and his Celtic teammates stayed alive in the race to retain their title on Wednesday, claiming a dramatic 3-2 road win over Motherwell. Trusty started and played 90 minutes in the result at Fir Park, having a say in the victory.
Elliot Watt and Daizen Maeda traded first half goals between the two clubs as it stood 1-1 at halftime.
Benjamin Nygren propelled Celtic in front early into the second half but Motherwell would tie things up with five minutes to play. Liam Gordon’s equalizer looked to have given Motherwell one home point and give Hearts a first league crown since 1960.
However, VAR ruled in favor of a late aerial foul from Sam Nicholson on Trusty in the box, giving Kelechi Iheanacho the opportunity to score the winning goal from the spot. Iheanacho sent Motherwell goalkeeper Calum Ward the wrong way, sending the visiting Celtic fans into pandemonium and sealing three points for his team.
Despite Hearts’ 3-0 home victory over Falkirk, Celtic can clinch the title on Saturday in Glasgow with a win over Derek McInnes’ men. A draw between the two sides or a Hearts victory would give Hearts the title, ending the lengthy reign of Celtic and Rangers’ grip on the league crown.
Trusty will be seeking to capture his second league title with Celtic since joining from Sheffield United in August 2025.
