Bam Rodriguez says Naoya Inoue super fight is “inevitable”

Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez believes a much-anticipated showdown with Naoya Inoue is “inevitable” ahead of his return on Saturday.

Bam Rodriguez moves to within one weight class of undisputed super bantamweight titlist, Inoue when he challenges Antonio Vargas for his WBA bantamweight world title in Arizona on Saturday, live on DAZN.

A meeting between the pair would pit two bonafide, pound-for-pound superstars against each other and the Texan believes the clash is bound to happen, with Ring Magazine owner Turki Alalshikh already expressing an interest in promoting the bout.

“I know when that Inoue fight does happen, then the fans are in for a great night of boxing,” the 26-year-old told Ring Magazine.

“People are already talking about that fight so much that it’s inevitable at this point.

“And I feel like when the time comes, it’s going to be a great fight, probably one of the best fights in boxing history.”

Inoue retained his undisputed crown with a unanimous decision win over Japanese rival Junto Nakatani last month.

Bam is the reigning unified super flyweight world champion and is expected to return to 115 pounds to challenge Andrew Moloney for the undisputed title.

The Texan admits he’d like to unify with WBC bantamweight titlist, Takuma Inoue, the younger brother of Inoue, should he emerge victorious against Vargas at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale.

“I think that’s a perfect storyline to the fight,” he said.

“I think that’s like almost the perfect storyline to the Inoue fight, beating his brother first and then going and fighting the second brother.”

Bam, who heads in as a significant favourite with the bookmakers, fights for the first time since unifying the super flyweight division with a 10th round knockout of Fernando Martinez in Riyadh in November.

Vargas retained his WBA belt for the first time last July, but was held to a draw by Daigo Higa.
