The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a whopping prize money of INR 125 crore (~15 million USD) for the Indian cricket team after their victorious campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024. According to the announcement on X by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, this shall stand in jubilation at the magnificent achievement of the team.

India won the T20 World Cup, beating South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting finish at Barbados. This prize money stood as a testament to the talent, determination, and ardent sportsmanship of playing throughout the tournament. The BCCI extends warm congratulations to all players, coaches, and support staff for their invaluable contribution towards this victory.

Did other teams also win whopping prize money?

On top of the BCCI’s bonus, the ICC had already declared that it would reward a cash prize of USD 2.45 million to the winner of this edition of the World Cup. Each team was given USD 31,154 at the event for winning any other match besides the semi-finals and final. The total prize money this year touched an all-time high for men’s T20 World Cups with its ever-rising popularity and competitive streak.

The ICC prize money for the 2024 T20 World Cup increased significantly with a total of USD 11.25 million as against USD 5.6 million in 2022. Inculcated in the hike is an extra USD 850,000 from the previous World Cup and this amount will be received by all 20 teams participating in the competition. Runners-up South Africa pocketed USD 1.28 million, a significant hike from the USD 800,000 given in 2022. Losing semifinalists Afghanistan and England took home USD 787,500 each.

This victory goes into history for Indian cricket in T20 internationals—it has been a strong display, reflecting great resilience and skill. Prize money and bonuses are large; it reflects an increasingly competitive sport at this level of international T20.
