England Test captain Ben Stokes is all set to return to action following the nightclub incident that took place in London. The star all-rounder will turn out for his domestic club, Durham, in the County Championship match against Northamptonshire, starting on Friday.
After a breach of the team’s midnight curfew alongside Gus Atkinson after the Lord’s Test, Stokes was omitted from England’s squad for the Oval clash against New Zealand. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched an investigation, the findings of which are still pending. However, both players have been given the green light to play domestic cricket.
There were reports in the British media that Stokes is likely to quit playing across all formats. Amid those reports, Durham head coach Ryan Campbell confirmed that Stokes had approached him and expressed his eagerness to play for Durham.
“Ben sent me a text and then gave me a phone call and said that he really needed to play and wanted to play for Durham,” Campbell told Sky Sports News on Thursday.
“We’re always backing our players and the guy needs to play cricket, so we’re very happy to have him here.”
Durham squad: Colin Ackermann, Kasey Aldridge, David Bedingham, Graham Clark, Alex Lees, Ben McKinney, James Minto, Duanne Olivier, Callum Parkinson, Matthew Potts, Ben Raine, Will Rhodes, Luke Robinson, Ollie Robinson and Ben Stokes.
