The Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat the Mumbai Indians in a nail-biting encounter at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur in Match 54 of the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Being put into bat on a wicket which had enough for the bowlers, the Mumbai Indians were dented early as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the first over and and followed it up with the dismissal of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in successive balls in his next over. The Mumbai Indians, reeling at three down in the powerplay, were rescued by Naman Dhir and Tilak Verma.
The pair put on a stand of 82 off 57 balls, as they rescued the MI innings in the middle overs. Dhir fell after scoring 47 off 32 the defending champions pulled things back, slowing MI’s momentum. Tilak got to his half-century, but fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 57, who finished with figures of 4 for 23. The Mumbai Indians got to a score of 166/7 in their 20 overs.
In response, MI were handed an early opportunity with the fall of Virat Kohli for a golden duck to Deepak Chahar. Devdutt Padikkal nicked Chahar behind, while Corbin Bosch dismissed Rajat Patidar, leaving RCB reeling in the powerplay. Krunal Pandya and Jacob Bethell stabilised the innings with a 55-run stand off 42 balls.
Krunal took on the MI bowlers, depositing them away as he reached his half-century off 32 balls. Bosch pulled things back with two more wickets, finishing with figures of 4/26. Krunal fell for 73 off 46, with 18 runs still needed off the final two overs. Bumrah conceded just three runs off the penultimate over, but the defending champions held on to win off the final ball.
The loss takes the Mumbai Indians out of contention for the playoffs, while the Royal Challengers Bengaluru head to the top of the table with 14 points and a superb net run rate of 1.10.
