Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have received a major setback in the ongoing IPL 2026, and it has come at the worst possible time. Just when things were starting to settle for Chennai Super Kings, Khaleel Ahmed sent the shockwaves inside the camp.
Khaleel Ahmed sustained an injury while bowling 17th over for CSK in their previous IPL 2026 game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk Stadium. It was simple hip pain that has now turned into a bigger setback for both the fast bowler and the five-time champions.
CSK in trouble as Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of IPL 2026
As reported by India Today and other media outlets, Khaleel has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing IPL 2026 season after suffering a quadriceps injury.

The fast bowler has suffered a grade 2 tear. Along with this, there is also a high-grade stretch injury in his right thigh muscle area. It is being said that one part of the muscle has completely torn, which makes his recovery process longer and tougher.
Khaleel will now need proper treatment and a lengthy time to heal properly. His rehabilitation is expected to take around 10 to 12 weeks, which means nearly three months. Given that the CSK fast bowler won’t be able to play any further part in the ongoing tournament.
An IPL source said, “It is a grade 2 tear, and the rehab will take at least 10-12 weeks.” An official statement on Khaleel’s injury is expected soon from the franchise and IPL.
Khaleel Ahmed’s injury forces big change in plans
It was a significant setback for CSK as they had just made a comeback after three losses in a row in the ongoing IPL 2026. Khaleel was doing a good job in the power play and giving breakthroughs, so losing him means the team will now have to adjust their bowling plans.
In his absence, Gurjapneet Singh and Anshul Kamboj are expected to play a bigger role alongside England’s Jamie Overton. The 28-year-old pacer, who was retained for ₹4.8 crore, played five matches and picked up two wickets for CSK this season at an economy rate of 8.67.
