Ghana’s U-20 women’s national team, the Black Princesses, are one step away from securing qualification to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after progressing to the final round of the African qualifiers.
The Princesses booked their place in the decisive stage with a 3-2 aggregate victory over South Africa, having earlier thrashed Tunisia 4-0 on aggregate in the second round. Both Ghana and Uganda were among the top-ranked nations exempted from the opening round of the qualifiers.
Now chasing an impressive eighth consecutive appearance at the global tournament, Ghana will face Uganda’s U-20 side, the Queen Cranes, in a two-legged playoff for a place in Poland 2026.
The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off set for 3:30 pm. The return leg will be played in Uganda between May 8 and May 10.
Uganda, who are yet to qualify for a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, have shown strong form en route to the final round. They defeated Namibia 5-0 on aggregate in the second round before edging past Zambia 2-1 to set up the clash with Ghana.
Only four teams will represent Africa at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Poland from September 5 to 27.
Under the guidance of head coach Charles Sampson, the Black Princesses will be aiming not only to maintain their remarkable qualification record but also to take a step closer to improving on their performances at the global stage, where they have historically struggled to progress beyond the group phase.
With qualification within reach, all eyes will be on Accra as Ghana looks to gain a crucial advantage ahead of the return leg.
