Blue Jays sign utility player Max Viera to minor league deal

The Toronto Blue Jays signed some minor league depth recently.

On Tuesday, the High Points Rockers of the Atlantic League, an independent league, announced that the Jays signed utility prospect Max Viera to a minor league deal.

Max Viera, a valuable utility player for the High Point Rockers, has had his contract purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays organization🔥

Congratulations Max🔥

Born in New York City, New York, Viera stands at 5’10”, 185 lbs and plays all three outfield positions, but naturally plays shortstop, third base, and second base. After going undrafted out of high school, Viera joined Northeastern for the 2021 season, slashing .348/.394/.589 with six home runs in 155 plate appearances. The following season saw his numbers decline, hitting just .208/.297/.266 with one homer in 219 plate appearances.

Viera transferred to Seton Hall for the 2023 season, returning to his 2021 form by batting .319/.372/.486 with five home runs in 243 plate appearances. Still, he went undrafted and joined Seton Hall for his senior year, slashing .259/.318/.331 with one home run in 152 plate appearances.

The 25-year-old continued his career in the Atlantic League, an independent league. With the High Point Rockers, Viera slashed .261/.355/.378 with five home runs, 21 doubles, and three triples in 420 plate appearances in 2025. The infielder returned to begin the 2026 season and slashed .252/.374/.380 with four home runs in 198 plate appearances before joining the Blue Jays.

While the move hasn’t been made official by the Blue Jays, and it’s unclear what level Viera will start at, as it’s all dependent on which minor league team needs a utility infielder at the moment. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him begin his affiliate career with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays.

With the draft less than a month away, there’s going to be an influx of prospects in the system, both drafted players and non-drafted players. We’ll see if there are any other moves as the season reaches the midway point.
