Parkinson’s @ Ormesby, a weekly table tennis session held at Ormesby Table Tennis Club, continues to go from strength to strength. The sessions are exclusively for people living with Parkinson’s and their spouses or carers, providing both physical activity and valuable social support.
The initiative was established three and a half years ago by Lynn and Ken, who both live with Parkinson’s. Having experienced first-hand the benefits that table tennis can bring in helping to manage Parkinson’s symptoms, they were surprised to discover that there were no dedicated sessions available anywhere in the North East. Determined to fill that gap, they launched Parkinson’s @ Ormesby, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for others affected by the condition.
Now the group is preparing to celebrate another major milestone. On Sunday 19 July, they will host their inaugural Parkinson’s table tennis tournament, Tees Parky Spin @ Ormesby. The event will be the first tournament of its kind not only in the Tees Valley but across the entire North East of England.
Interest has been strong, with players from across the UK already registered to take part. As word spreads, places are continuing to fill steadily, highlighting the growing popularity of Parkinson’s table tennis and the positive impact it is having on participants nationwide.
