Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Release Date, Price, Platforms, and Story Revealed

Activision and Infinity Ward have officially revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The game launches on October 23, 2026, and is now available for pre-order.

What Platforms Will MW4 Launch On?

Modern Warfare 4 will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

This marks the first time in 13 years that Call of Duty will release on a Nintendo platform. Infinity Ward partnered with Digital Legends to develop a native Modern Warfare 4 experience for Switch 2. The game is built exclusively for current-gen platforms.

The Story

Infinity Ward has described the campaign as “dark” and “gritty.” Players take on the role of Private Park, a South Korean soldier thrust into war for the first time.

The official story description from Activision reads: War breaks out on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion. Captain Price returns, waging a personal war from the shadows while staying ahead of those hunting him. His mission eventually collides with the forces driving the invasion, and the conflict spirals beyond anyone’s control.

The trailer also shows a rooftop confrontation between Price and Ghost. The two former allies appear to be on opposing sides in this entry, which has already left fans divided.

Campaign Locations

The campaign goes well beyond Korea. Players will fight through trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed chases in Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults across occupied territory.

Multiplayer and DMZ

Multiplayer in Modern Warfare 4 adds Ballistic Authority, 12 Core maps, and a dynamic Kill Block system.

DMZ also returns. Players operate behind enemy lines, running extractions from contested zones where every decision on objectives and timing matters.

A fuller reveal, including the DMZ mode, is set for June 7, 2026, as part of the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2026.

Price and Pre-Order Details

Modern Warfare 4 comes in two digital editions. The Standard Edition is priced at $70. The Vault Edition costs $100, though eligible players can bring that down to $90 through a 10% loyalty discount.

To qualify for the loyalty discount, players must own and have played at least one Call of Duty title released in 2019 or later on the same platform account used for pre-order. Eligible titles include Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7. The offer is valid on pre-orders only, until October 23, 2026.

The Vault Edition includes the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack with four operator skins for Price, Valeria, Ghost, and Blix; a Special Forces Operator Pack with four skins representing the UK, Germany, France, and South Korea (each with local language voice packs); a Signature Weapon Collection with five signature weapons; one season of BlackCell; and a DMZ Deployment Bonus.

Pre-ordering any digital edition also grants early access to the Open Beta and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, which unlocks immediately in Black Ops 7 and Warzone.

The Vault Edition is only available digitally. There is no physical version.
