Cameron Young won for the second time this season, by six shots over Scottie Scheffler at the Cadillac Championship in Miami on Sunday.
Young (64-67-68-70) led the $20 million PGA Tour event from the start and his dominance was underlined by a self-called penalty that resulted in the loss of one stroke.
The winner’s 19 under par 269 was comfortably better than world number one Scheffler (71-67-69-68, 113 under 275) and third-placed Ben Griffin (70-70-68-64, 12 under 276).
The 29-year-old called the violation on himself while playing the par-4 second hole, after he caused his ball to move in the fairway. He still made par.
“Your heart sinks when you see it move,” Young said later. “But it moved. That’s part of what’s golf about. There’s no one who’s going to give me a penalty there but myself.”
Sunday’s result was Young’s third win overall and the second in 2026 after the Players Championship.
With rain expected, Sunday’s start time was advanced but changed conditions did little to halt the American.
“When the golf course is difficult, when the conditions are difficult, that tends to make it easier for me mentally,” Young said after collecting his $3.6 million payout.
Rare feat
It was a third consecutive runner-up placing for Scheffler after finishing behind Rory McIlroy at the Masters and losing in a playoff to Matthew Fitzpatrick at Hilton Head.
Sharing fourth place behind Griffin were Korea’s Si Woo Kim, Sepp Straka of Austria and Australian veteran Adam Scott on 11 under 277.
The finish is likely to hand Scott a start at the US Open, which will be his 100th consecutive major appearance.
“To win a major I’m going to need to put four days together, not just a weekend coming from behind,” said Scott.
“I feel like my game is there. I’m doing all the things that I think I need to do to be in that kind of contention.”
Young’s stellar form this year has given him five top 10s — T7 at The Genesis Invitational, T3 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and tied third at the Masters — and the two wins.
Repeat winner
It was his third PGA Tour title and he joined Matt Fitzpatrick (three) and Chris Gotterup (two) as players with multiple wins this season.
According to notes shared by the Tour, Young is the second wire-to-wire winner this season after Justin Rose at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Young also moved up to third on the Official World Golf Ranking from fourth with the Cadillac title.
Scheffler’s three second-place finishes in a row were the first since Sergio Garcia in 2014 and was his 29th straight top-25 finish after the 2024 BMW Championship where he shared 33rd place.
Indian-American Sahith Theegala posted a closing 64, Sunday’s best card alongside Scott, while Indian Open champion Alex Fitzpatrick brought in a T9 placing on 9 under 279 in his first start as a PGA Tour member.
