Carmageddon: Rogue Shift update improves vehicle handling, adds new car and bonnet camera

Console updates will roll out at a later date.

Carmageddon made a surprise return earlier this month with the release of Rogue Shift, a roguelite spin-off by Redout developer 34BigThings.

Alongside its confused identity, one of our main criticisms about the combat racer was the loose vehicle handling. Mercifully, a new PC patch update aims to address this with an overhauled driving physics model

According to the developer, the overhauled tyre physics provide “more progressive grip loss.” The default steering is said to be more responsive, with new options allowing players to tweak the linearity. The “acceleration curve” is also more responsive at low speeds or when driving in reverse.

In addition, the update adds a new AWD car known as the Grosso to celebrate the milestone of players killing 50 million Wasted (Rogue Shift’s version of zombies). There’s also a new bonnet camera.

For now, the patch is only available for the PC game, but the update is planned for consoles when it’s approved by each platform holder with additional crash fixes.

Beyond the latest patch, 34BigThings plans to add steering wheel support and a new Challenge mode in future updates.

Full patch notes for the new update are below.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift 27th February Steam update patch notes

New Free Vehicle: Grosso

As a token of our gratitude for clearing out 50 million Wasted, we stole this sweet AWD ride from the Enforcers.

The Grosso’s innate perk is Lock Jammer, which gives the player a longer immunity window to Weapon Lock after evading with a Boost or a Sidebash.

To unlock the new car, simply update the game and the Grosso should already be added to your garage.

Bonnet Cam

Now you can really stare into the dead eyes of the Wasted as you run them over!

To change your camera, press ‘C’ on keyboard or up on the d-pad for consoles.

Improved Handling and Other Fixes

A huge thank you to everyone who tested the new handling and sent us feedback! We made a few additional adjustments based on your input from the beta, and are now rolling these updates out to the main branch.

*SOME SETTINGS MAY BE OVERRIDDEN BY THE NEW PATCH / STEERING OPTIONS. Please check your settings if anything feels strange.

And as always, let us know if we overtuned anything!

Other Fixes, Enemy AI Improvements

  • We continue to work on and implement various crashes and enemy ai/behaviour improvements.
  • Fixed various issues related to the Final Boss disappearing for a long time or altogether.
  • Fixed minimap issues on Steam Deck.
  • Fixed the cursor drift issue while on the campaign map.
  • Vehicles now load faster in the garage.
  • Reworked various sound effects that typically occur during a race to improve auditory clarity.

Not new news, but Carmageddon Rogue Shift is Steam Deck Verified! You can even play on desktop then switch to your Steam Deck and keep your progress. Just make sure your save file is backed up via Steam Cloud.
