According to a report by Alex Daugherty of The Tennessean, don’t believe what you hear regarding the recent Steven Stamkos trade rumors. He’s not moving, and he hasn’t even spoken to the Predators about that possibility.
Daugherty writes in an article on Friday:
“Stamkos denied a report from The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun that he might be willing to waive a full no-movement clause in his contract to be traded to a legitimate contender.” He adds, “I haven’t talked to (GM Barry Trotz) at all about that,” Stamkos said, adding there was “zero” chance he’d be willing to waive his no movement clause.
There were rumors that he might be open to return to Tampa Bay, even though he wants to stay in Nashville. Understanding that the business of hockey is what it is, LeBrun’s report suggested that, if he felt he had to be traded, there were a couple of places he would be willing to go.
“Obviously, there’s stuff that gets reported,” Stamkos said. “But what I’ll say, with this group, we want to be together. I can only control what I can control, but I love being here.”
LeBrun wrote earlier this week:
“Steven Stamkos has a full no-move clause; he controls the state here, and he’s not asking out. He’s happy in Nashville, but in preparation for if Predators management goes to him before next Friday and says we’ve got some offers on the table, I’m told Stamkos and his camp have prepared themselves by coming up with a list of some preferred destinations. I’m told that list is topped by Tampa Bay, then Dallas, then Minnesota. To a certain degree New Jersey, but certainly it’s Lightning, Stars, and Wild. Keep in mind that I think it’s more likely this is a summer discussion—a summer trade—but just brace yourselves in case this possibility happens,”
