Charlotte Flair is fully aware of the history she’s chasing in WWE, and she’s not backing away from the possibility of eventually surpassing both Ric Flair and John Cena on the all-time championship list.
During an appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Charlotte spoke openly about her pursuit of the record currently associated with her father and Cena. While discussing the topic, she immediately corrected the hosts on Cena’s updated title count before revealing the conversations she regularly has with Ric Flair.
“Well, Cena’s 17 now.”
Charlotte then admitted she constantly reminds her father that she’s coming after his legacy. Even while joking about it, Charlotte made it clear the chase is very real for her. She also laughed about the possibility of Ric Flair simply adding another title reign himself.
“My dad I speak with daily. I’m like, ‘Dad, I’m beating your record.’ He’s like, ‘When are you beating my record?’”
“He’ll just come back and win another.”
The conversation later shifted toward John Cena and whether Charlotte has spoken with him directly about potentially passing his record as well. While Charlotte said they haven’t had a direct conversation about it, she paid close attention to comments Cena made following her Royal Rumble victory. Charlotte explained that Cena intentionally avoided limiting the record discussion to male wrestlers only, something she immediately picked up on.
“With Cena, I have not spoken to him directly about this topic, but I do know when I came back last year and won the Rumble and he was also on the press conference, he didn’t say male.”
She then broke down why that stood out to her so much. Charlotte admitted she viewed that as a sign Cena understands she’s legitimately in position to eventually pass him. Charlotte then closed the topic with one final message directed at Cena himself.
“He said to the person — I don’t know what his exact wording was — but he left gender open.”
“So I do think that — not that I will take that as a nod to me — but he just didn’t say male, he said to whoever person.”
“So I’m like, okay, he knows I’m gunning for him and there’s nothing he could do about it.”
Charlotte Flair already sits among the most decorated champions in WWE history, and it’s obvious she has no plans to slow down anytime soon. With her championship total continuing to climb, the conversation surrounding WWE’s all-time record may only get louder from here.
