Chelsea’s dismal run of form in the Premier League continued on Monday as they were beaten 3-1 by Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored either side of Igor Jesus’ goal to earn Forest a hugely important victory at Stamford Bridge, moving Vitor Pereira’s side six points clear of the relegation zone.

The Blues, meanwhile, pulled one back through Joao Pedro’s stunning strike, but have now lost six consecutive league matches and are set to miss out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

While the west London side are in disarray off the pitch, it appears that those in charge of their recruitment are working to sign a South American defender.

As per TEAMtalk, Chelsea had scouts in attendance to watch Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez impress against Anderlecht in the Belgian top flight on Sunday.

The centre-back has been of interest to the London side for some time now, but it appears that the reigning Club World Cup holders are stepping up that interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ordonez, 22, joined Club Brugge from Ecuadorian outfit Independiente in 2022, and has now made a total of 124 appearances for his current side across all competitions.

The central defender has impressed this season, and his performances have put him firmly on the radar of Chelsea, as well as several other clubs.

The Ecuadorian – an international teammate of Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo – is under contract in Brugge until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, but it appears that the Blues could attempt to lure him to London this summer.

Chelsea’s interest in the defender is said to pre-date his move to Belgian four years ago, but the London side have been impressed by his progress since securing his move to Europe.
