Federico Chiesa has opened up on his difficult two years at Liverpool, revealing the club blocked his January exit and hinting that Curtis Jones is close to joining Inter after the England midfielder asked him about life in Italy.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, the Italy international was candid about his frustrations at Anfield.

“The issue was playing time,” he said.

“From the start of 2026 I played very little. In January the club and Slot told me I couldn’t leave, they needed me for squad numbers, we were in an emergency. I understood the situation and stayed with a smile. You’re always talking about Liverpool, last year they made me win the Premier League. And yet…”

On his failed January move to Juventus, Chiesa confirmed Liverpool had informed him of the approach before the deal ultimately collapsed.

He also addressed the controversy surrounding his absence from Italy’s World Cup play-off squad, insisting the decision was purely medical.

“Gattuso explained it and I thank him, Rino is a fantastic man,” he said. “Unfortunately injuries happen and I arrived at Coverciano with physical problems. I was sent home after a medical consultation. I understand people can think otherwise in that moment, but the only pain was seeing Italy out of the World Cup.”

Chiesa open to Serie A return as Jones reveals Italy interest to Liverpool teammate

On his future, Chiesa was unambiguous, he needs to play.

“If I don’t find continuity in the Premier League I have to look elsewhere,” he said, confirming he will head to the United States for pre-season before holding talks with new Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola.

When asked about Como, he was notably warm. “Fabregas is a top coach, nobody would have imagined a Como like this,” he said.

The most revealing moment came when asked about Liverpool players attracting Italian interest.

“Jones only asked me how life is in Italy,” Chiesa said. “I told him you live very well and the weather is better than Liverpool. Jones is technically very strong, Inter are right to think about him. As for Alisson, from what I hear he stays in England, but we will see. He is one of the best five goalkeepers in the world.”
