Chris Jericho Explains Why WWE Avoided Out-Of-Court Settlements

Chris Jericho says WWE had a very firm mindset when it came to lawsuits during his time with the company.

While speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Jericho talked about how easily people can file lawsuits and claimed WWE generally avoided settling cases out of court. According to Jericho, the company believed settling one weak claim could encourage even more people to come after them.

“People will sue for anything. I know when I worked for WWE, one of the rules was we will not settle out of court for any lawsuit, right?”

Jericho then explained WWE’s thinking behind that approach. He said the company would rather spend more money fighting a case than hand out a smaller settlement that could invite more claims later.

“Because if you settle for one, then everybody’s going to start breaking through. They would rather pay, you know, $30,000 than give out 10 because if you give out 10, then everyone for the low-hanging fruit is going to start trying to get involved.”

The takeaway is pretty clear: according to Jericho, WWE saw settlements as a slippery slope. Even if fighting a case cost more upfront, the company felt it was better than opening the door for more lawsuits from people looking for a quick payout.
