Cincinnati Reds to skip Brady Singer in the rotation this week

Brady Singer was scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals. The forecast made it clear that the game was not going to begin on time and an hour before the game was scheduled to begin the team announced it wouldn’t start on time. Less than two hours later, with it still raining and more rain in the forecast the game was postponed.

Cincinnati is taking that opportunity to skip over Singer in the rotation rather than push everyone back a day, first reported by Fox 19’s Charlie Goldsmith. Singer has struggled this season for the most part. He’s had a few solid outings in 2026, but he’s also had several games where he didn’t give his team much of a chance to win. And in May it’s been quite bad for the veteran right-handed starter.

His first start of the month came against Pittsburgh and the Pirates scored four runs on seven hits and two walks against him and Singer only recorded one out in the 4th inning before he exited the game in what turned into a 9-1 loss by the Reds. The next time out he was able to keep his team in the game as he allowed four runs in 6.0 innings against the Cubs, but Cincinnati would lose the game in extra innings that day.

Back at home on the 12th Singer faced the Washington Nationals and much like his first start of the month he was unable to complete the 4th inning. This time around he gave up three runs on six hits and a walk, while giving up three home runs in just 3.2 innings in a contest the Reds lost 10-4. On the road against Cleveland in his last start he allowed five runs on seven hits – giving up three more home runs – and a walk in 4.0 innings in another loss.

Four starts in May, an ERA of 8.47, and he’s given up 26 hits with nine home runs in 17.0 innings pitched while the Reds have lost each game he’s started. Cincinnati is hoping that the extra rest could give him a little bit of a reset to get things moving in the right direction when he takes the mound next (likely against Atlanta next weekend).

Nick Lodolo, Chase Burns, and Andrew Abbott will start the games in New York against the Mets that are set to be played Monday through Wednesday. The Reds have Thursday off before returning home for a 6-game homestand with three games against Atlanta and three against Kansas City.
