On Friday night the Cincinnati Reds opened up the series with a rare win against a National League Central opponent as they grabbed a 6-4 victory. This afternoon they will look to make it two in a row and take the series in Pittsburgh over the Pirates. First pitch today is scheduled for 4:05pm ET. This game will be in a delay. New expected first pitch is 4:40pm ET.

Starting Pitchers
Chase Burns
It has been an impressive first half of the year for Burns. He’s made 15 starts and in just one of them has he allowed more than two runs. He has faced Pittsburgh twice this season and in those two games he allowed four hits over 12.0 innings with 14 strikeouts and no runs. Cincinnati is 11-4 in his starts.
The splits for Burns are noticeable this year, but neither lefties or righties have been good against him. Lefties are hitting better across the board this year. They are hitting for a low average, but they are drawing walks at a good rate and when they do find hits they show a solid amount of power. Right-handed hitters are hitting for a low average, rarely walk, and hit for no power.

Jared Jones
After missing all of 2025 and the first two months of 2026 (he did make five rehab starts in this time) Jones returned to the Pirates rotation on May 29th. He’s made five starts in his return and has struggled in a few and been solid in a few.
The sample size is still very small in 2026 for Jones, but the splits against him are very big. Right-handed hitters have not been able to do anything against him. Left-handed hitters, however, have been able to tee off against him as they have hit for a high average and a lot of power.

News and Notes
Blake Dunn update, sort of
Last night Dunn exited the game when he injured his elbow making a throw back to the infield. Prior to today’s game manager Terry Francona told the media that Dunn will likely come back to Cincinnati for further evaluation – first reported by Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19. The Reds did not make a roster move today to replace Dunn.
