CM Punk May Not Have Completely Burned Bridges With AEW

CM Punk’s AEW run ended in ugly fashion, but the door may not be fully closed forever; at least that’s what people in AEW believe.

According to Fightful Select, some people within AEW have long believed that bridges between Punk and the company could eventually be rebuilt, even if he never wrestles there again. The report noted that Punk may not repair his relationships with everyone in AEW, but when asked whether he had completely burned bridges with the promotion, the response was: “never say never”

Punk’s AEW run was filled with major highs and serious backstage drama. He returned to wrestling in AEW in August 2021 and became one of the company’s biggest stars, but things fell apart after the All Out 2022 media scrum, where his comments about Colt Cabana, Hangman Page, and The Elite led to the backstage fight later known as Brawl Out.

Punk eventually returned for AEW Collision in 2023, but more issues followed. His backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In 2023 led to AEW firing him with cause, and the company later aired security footage of the incident on Dynamite in April 2024.

Even with all that history, Punk said in August 2024 that he does not root against AEW because he still has friends who work there. That comment, combined with this latest report, suggests the situation may not be as permanently broken as many fans assumed.

CM Punk may never wrestle for AEW again, but rebuilding some relationships behind the scenes is apparently not impossible. After everything that happened, even a peaceful relationship between Punk and AEW would be a major change from where things stood after All In.

What do you think about the idea of CM Punk and AEW eventually rebuilding bridges? Could it happen, or is there too much bad blood? Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
