Cody Rhodes knows fans want to see him face CM Punk, but he says making that match happen isn’t as easy as people think.
The idea of Rhodes vs. Punk has been teased ever since Punk returned to WWE in late 2023. That talk heated up again after WrestleMania, when Rhodes told Punk on Raw to name a time and place if he wanted the match. Now, Rhodes is admitting it’s a bout he wants too — but one that could be tough to lock in.
While speaking with ESPN’s TikTok, Rhodes didn’t dodge the question when asked about dream matches. He made it clear that Punk sits at the top of his list.
“Fans think it might happen but I think is very hard to put together — I’ll use myself as an example, a dream match that I’d like to be a part of is probably myself versus CM Punk.”
Even with the hype around the idea, Rhodes said today’s wrestling world makes things more complicated than they used to be, especially with multiple moving parts behind the scenes.
“The likelihood of it happening, who knows? Wrestling has gotten more — it’s difficult, you know? We’re collaborators these days, so it’s difficult.”
Rhodes also pointed out that both sides would have to be fully on board before anything like this becomes reality.
“I don’t know if he’d want that and I don’t know if I’d want it. But, I know just it would be really great and be very good for wrestling.”
Rhodes and Punk have already crossed paths on WWE television, and the tension between them has only fueled fan interest in seeing the match happen someday. For now, the dream match is still just talk — but it’s clearly one that both fans and Rhodes himself are thinking about.
