UFC superstar Conor McGregor has a keen interest in Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland this weekend in Newark.
UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev will fight former titleholder Sean Strickland in the UFC 328 headliner this weekend in one of the biggest bouts of the year. Chimaev and Strickland have traded barbs for months and are expected to deliver fireworks during an electric fight week in Newark.
Chimaev is looking to remain undefeated in his MMA career after defeating Dricus du Plessis for the UFC middleweight title last year at UFC 319. Despite two recent title fight losses, Strickland earned the Chimaev fight with an impressive finish over Anthony Hernandez at UFC Houston.
Many top contenders will keep a close eye on the action this weekend as Chimaev and Strickland square off in their grudge match. One such fighter is Conor McGregor, who hasn’t fought since 2021 but is on the cusp of a return to the Octagon.
Despite never competing at middleweight in his MMA career, McGregor feels he has a stake in the game this weekend at UFC 328.
Conor McGregor: Khamzat Chimaev, Sean Strickland fight for ‘my title’ at UFC 328
In a recent post to X, McGregor sent a subtle message to Chimaev and Strickland just days away from UFC 328.
“Very excited for the Newark, New Jersey UFC card, with my 185 lb UFC title on the line!” McGregor posted.
“TUNE IN ON [Paramount+].”
As of this writing, Chimaev and Strickland haven’t responded to McGregor’s post.
McGregor has been linked to a potential rematch against former BMF titleholder Max Holloway for his comeback fight. He hasn’t fought since injuring his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
McGregor and Chimaev have traded barbs throughout their careers, especially after McGregor’s most recent win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. Chimaev opted to make the full-time move to middleweight after defeating former welterweight champ Kamaru Usman at UFC 294.
