Mike Rupp: “I kind of want to know where you’re at with Quinn Hughes. Is it the more success he has in Minnesota, does that make it more likely, in your opinion, that he resigns there?
Friedman: “So Mike, I know that you’re wearing your New Jersey Devils Underoos while you ask this question. I just, I just want you to know I’m aware of all that.
So, no, I, I made a prediction on the pod that I think, it’s my, purely my prediction that he extends. And I think, I would be surprised if he does not extend with Minnesota.
And, you know, one of the reasons is something that you talked about, I think that he recognizes he’s got a good thing there, and they’ve got a good thing there. Like, that’s a good team. And if you look at all their contracts, Matt Boldy, who was it, was taken enormous steps this year, is signed long term. That, you know, Kirill Kaprizov is obviously signed long-term. (Jesper) Wallstedt, their tremendous young goalie, who just became the first rookie goalie in Wild history to win a playoff series. He’s got a very bright future there and is still very young. (Jonas) Brodin is signed. A lot of. Brock Faber is signed long-term.
And initially, I think that Quinn Hughes, when Minnesota was presented to him, he was like, really. And then I believe some people around him said, ‘Look at this team. Look how good they are. Look how long their key pieces are signed for. If you go there, you will love it.’ And I think that’s happened.
I also believe, I believe this to be very true, Michael, is that Quinn Hughes respects that Bill Guerin made the deal. That Bill Guerin had the guts to go in, make this trade without a guaranteed extension. And I think that Hughes respects that. I think he appreciates it. Especially now that he’s seen how well the team looks, how good they are, and I think he’s going to reward them.
And I think my prediction on the pod was a three-year extension, and I’m going with that prediction, and we’ll see if I’m right or if I’m wrong. But I think he extends.
