Bronny James Continues Offensive Impact in Lakers’ Game 4 Loss

Leading its first-round Western Conference playoff series 3-0, LA had a chance to close out Houston on the road with an unlikely 4-0 sweep. The Lakers have navigated the entire series without star guards Luka Dončić (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique) behind LeBron’s sustained brilliance.

While Reaves is on the verge of returning, LA remained without its starting backcourt in Game 4, keeping the door open for Bronny to receive extra playing time. After scoring his first playoff points in style in Friday’s 112-108 overtime Game 3 road win, the 21-year-old continued making an offensive impact off the bench on Sunday.

Upon checking in to start the second quarter, Bronny, known primarily for his defensive tenacity, immediately began facilitating for his teammates. He first drove and set up big man Deandre Ayton for a one-handed alley-oop finish to narrowly beat the shot clock.

After that, Bronny maneuvered into the paint again and found an open Rui Hachimura beyond the arc for a wing 3-pointer to cut the Lakers’ deficit to 33-28 with 8:13 remaining in the first half.

Unfortunately for Bronny, his team wasn’t able to get it going offensively throughout the night, with his father being held to just 10 points on 2-for-9 shooting (22.2%) with 8 turnovers. Meanwhile, Ayton, who paced LA with 19 points and 10 rebounds, was ejected midway through the third quarter for a flagrant foul 2 against Rockets star Alperen Şengün.

He knocked down a corner triple late in the third quarter and crossed over Rockets veteran forward Dorian Finney-Smith before converting a tough layup in the final minute of the lopsided affair.

In between, the youngster also dished to Lakers forward Adou Thiero for an emphatic alley-oop jam.

“Bronny James turning the f**k up under the bright lights of the playoffs. I love to see it after all the narratives that consumed the beginning [of] his NBA career. He’s showcasing that he truly belongs at this level and can be an impactful player,” Point Made Basketball gushed over Bronny’s performance.

“Bronny is playing well fr,” @RiqRuler opined.

“BRONNY CREATING OFFENSE,” Lakers Lead exclaimed.

“Those minutes from Bronny were really good; he was always making the right play.
Maybe right now he’s not a true rotation player in the playoffs, clearly his usage is more about giving that boost to LeBron, you can see him more motivated with him on the court, but Bronny has the look of someone who’s going to be a great role player, I’m 100% sure of that,” NBA personality YostinNBA surmised.

“Nah, Bronny actually starting to look like a legit rotation player,” Lakers Daily suggested.

However, some noted that the 2024 No. 55 pick still appeared hesitant to shoot on some open looks.

“I actually feel bad for Bronny. He kills it in [the] G-League, but in [the] NBA, he seems scared to shoot. Probably because living up to his dad is impossible. He needs to disconnect from that and just be Bronny,” one user reacted.

With each of their five starters tallying 16-plus points, the Rockets kept their season alive with relative ease. The two sides will square off in Game 5 in Los Angeles on Wednesday, with Bronny and Co. looking to advance to Round 2 in front of their home fans.
